Quick answer

Choose pieces that change with the hour. Begin with one base colour, add one hero bottom you can wrap and knot, slip in a woven basket, and tie on a raffia fruit. A small suitcase - a wardrobe that keeps rearranging itself.

How we pack, in the studio

Everything we make in the Guéliz atelier passes through women's hands, in small runs - raffia, woven banana leaf, the Jawhara that drapes light and fluid and catches the sun. So when I travel with our own pieces, I pack the way we cut and sew: unhurried, deliberate, reaching for things that hold more than one mood. Five pieces that earn their place will always beat a heavy case you only half-unpack. Pack for the days, not the just-in-case.

Pack one base colour

Start from one base - Black Olive, Nude, Camel - or a single Jawhara stripe you keep coming back to. When every piece speaks the same colour, everything pairs with everything, and the case stays light. One palette, and the mornings sort themselves out.

Choose one hero bottom

Let one bottom anchor the whole trip. A pareo skirt ties two ways and moves as you walk. Palazzo pants give you ease, a clean line, quiet pockets. Wrap pants carry a little Marrakech in the way they fall. Each one is size-free, cut to fit XS through XXL - movement over measurement - so a single bottom dresses several days, lunch in the riad to a night on the rooftop.

Add one basket bag

One woven basket does more than anything else you'll pack. Ours are made from banana leaf and raffia, finished by hand with leather and beads - a single basket is roughly 48 hours of work for Fatima and the women, spread across about six days. Keep it dry and treat the fibre gently; it's delicate by nature. It holds your market figs in the morning and comes to the table at golden hour - the same bag, a different evening.

Let a fruit charm change the mood

A raffia fruit is the lightest thing in the bag, and it turns one look into two. Fatima crochets each by hand - a fruit slice is a couple of hours, a whole fruit a little longer, a cluster of grapes the better part of a day. Clip one on for dinner under the palms; take it off for the souk at noon. Small, playful, made by hand. ⵣ

Carry a piece of Marrakech

Carry a piece of Marrakech. Take a piece from this story with you, or come by the studio at 66 rue Yougoslavie in Guéliz - open noon to eight, closed Tuesdays - and feel the raffia and the weave under your own hands. Rooted in Marrakech, made for everywhere. Life is more colorful in Marrakech.
