Quick answer

Dress for movement, not for occasions. Keep a handful of pieces that carry from the souks to the seaside - a pareo skirt, easy palazzo pants, a woven basket bag - let one handmade detail lead each look, and stay inside one small family of colour. That is the modern Marrakchi wardrobe: rooted in Marrakesh, crafted for everywhere.

Where this wardrobe comes from

YZA grew on one street in Guéliz, where my family has worked for three generations - next door to my father's Rotisserie de la Paix, the smell of it part of my whole childhood. Our atelier at 66 rue Yougoslavie is run entirely by women, and Fatima, thirty-seven years into the craft, sits at the centre of it. So when I say a Marrakchi wardrobe, I mean pieces shaped by hands that already know the material: woven banana leaf and raffia, a little leather, the odd row of beads catching the light. Small batches, each piece given the hours it actually needs. We are not chasing speed here - we are after intention.

Start with movement

I build a wardrobe around how a piece lives across a real day, never around one event on a calendar. A pareo skirt is beach by morning, a long lunch by afternoon, dinner once the lamps come on. Palazzo pants cross from a resort terrace to a city pavement without a second thought. A basket bag - woven over roughly forty-eight hours across six days - holds the market, the café table, the flight home. Movement over measurement. That is how a piece earns its place.

Let one detail lead

A look does not need every flourish speaking at once. Choose the one thing that carries the story - a raffia handle worn smooth, a row of hand-strung beads, a fruit charm Fatima crochets slice by slice, each one near two hours of work. Say that detail clearly and let the rest stay quiet. Perfectly imperfect, no two ever identical.

Stay inside a colour family

Colour is culture. I start from a calm base - Nude, Camel, Black Olive - then let a single warm note carry the line: Hot Red, Deep Violet. Hold a look inside one small family and every piece agrees with the next, from the souks at noon to the seaside at golden hour. The palette is borrowed from here - sun on a wall, fruit on a cart, the last gold before dusk.

Think in looks, not single pieces

When I dress a day, I think in fours - a top, a bottom, a bag, a charm or a piece of jewellery. Because each one is made to sit beside the others, getting dressed stops being a decision; you reach for a few old friends, not a rail of strangers. That ease is what lets the wardrobe travel.
